NCIC summons two Kenyan MPs over controversial remarks

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned two Kenyan Members of Parliament, Didmus Barasa and John Ariko Naimot, following investigations into controversial public remarks.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa is being investigated for comments made on September 19 in Sirisia, Bungoma County. Barasa reportedly addressed leaders from the former Western Province holding senior government roles, such as Cabinet Secretaries and ambassadors, urging them to use their positions to advance regional interests. The NCIC is examining whether his remarks, which included hypothetical scenarios regarding ethnic favoritism in job interviews, violate the National Cohesion and Integration Act.

Separately, Turkana South MP John Ariko Naimot has been summoned regarding remarks allegedly made on September 2 in Turkana South Constituency. Naimot is accused of using derogatory language toward a specific community while discussing local insecurity, livestock raids, and the distribution of benefits from the Lokichar Oil Basin.
