AION 2 launches globally with over 400,000 concurrent Steam players

NC has officially launched AION 2, a free-to-play open-world MMORPG, to a global audience on PC via Steam and the PURPLE platform. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game features a world 36 times larger than the original AION, with a heavy emphasis on aerial combat and flight mechanics.

The launch has seen significant commercial success, with concurrent player counts on Steam exceeding 400,000. The title has reached the number one spot in several Steam categories, including Top Sellers by revenue, popular new releases, and trending free games. It has maintained high rankings across multiple international markets, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Brazil, and Canada.

While player numbers are high, community reception on Steam is currently rated as ‘Mixed’. Positive feedback highlights the detailed character customization and impressive graphics, while criticisms focus on the monetization model and the use of AI-generated assets. To support the launch, NC is running the ‘War For Atreia’ campaign, featuring 60 streamers across North America, Europe, and South America.
