NDA leaders support former judges' warning on Election Commission
Political tensions have escalated in India following an open letter from 42 former judges warning against attempts to weaken the Election Commission.
Leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), including members of the BJP and JDU, have supported the letter, characterizing it as a necessary warning to protect democracy. They accused the opposition, specifically the Congress party, of attempting to undermine constitutional institutions like the judiciary and the Election Commission when outcomes do not favor them.
In response, Congress leader Udit Raj criticized the central government and the Election Commission, stating that the opposition will take to the streets if the Commission acts arbitrarily, such as by removing names from voter lists. Raj argued that protecting the vote and the constitution is a fight for democracy and praised Rahul Gandhi's leadership in this effort.
