Önder Apo’s Peace Call Fuels Kurdish Activism as ISIS Tightens Sinjar Siege

Following Önder Apo’s appeal for peace and a democratic society, Kurdish activists say the movement endures despite political fatigue. TJA activist Hülya Alökmen noted serious wear in politics but affirmed that hope for peace never fades.

ISIS (DAİŞ) has increasingly narrowed the siege around Sinjar, leaving Yazidis with no safe escape or secure area, effectively trapped in a self‑made prison. The August issue of the Komînal newspaper, headlined “The Communal Democratic Society is the Root,” and Newaya Jin’s edition, titled “Facing the Will to Solve a Century‑Old Problem,” both feature extensive coverage of the Sinjar genocide, self‑defense, women’s liberation and related topics.

Protests continue in Kurdistan and Turkey demanding the release of detained relatives. Emine Ocak’s son Hüseyin Ocak reiterated the resolve to pursue truth and justice for missing and detained family members. DEM Party co‑leader Tülay Hatimoğulları is scheduled to attend the 24th Munzur Culture and Nature Festival in Dersim.
