NDIA managers on leave following IBAC COVID-19 grant findings

Two senior managers at the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) have been placed on leave following an investigation by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC). The managers were previously senior Victorian public servants implicated in a report regarding the mishandling of COVID-19 business grants.

IBAC’s ‘Operation Harmonia’ report found that three senior Victorian officials withheld or provided misleading information concerning pandemic support grants. The watchdog estimated that these actions resulted in approximately $260 million in taxpayer funds being paid to roughly 9,000 ineligible businesses.

NDIA Chief Executive Graeme Head confirmed during Senate estimates that neither of the two officers is currently on duty while the agency reviews the findings. The NDIA oversees the $50 billion National Disability Insurance Scheme, which supports 782,000 people and has faced ongoing challenges with fraud and waste.
