NDIS support reduced for Australian stroke survivor

Peter Barry, a stroke survivor from Colac, Victoria, has reported a reduction in his support from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) despite his ongoing physical needs. After suffering a stroke at age 58, Barry experienced paralysis on his left side, which prevented him from pursuing a planned career in the West Australian mining industry.

While Barry has regained some limited movement, the stroke resulted in the loss of his truck license and his ability to work. He has relied on NDIS-provided equipment, such as a motorized scooter, to maintain independence. Concerns have also been raised regarding the accessibility of the scheme following an unexplained month-long closure of the NDIS office in Colac.
