NDLEA launches nationwide counselor training to improve drug rehabilitation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a nationwide training programme for its counselors to standardize drug treatment and rehabilitation services across Nigeria.

Taking place at the NDLEA Academy in Jos, Plateau State, the first phase of the initiative involves more than 100 counselors from various agency formations. The programme is coordinated by the Directorate of Counseling, Treatment and Rehabilitation (DCTR) and aims to align operational protocols with both national and international standards.

NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), stated through representative ACGN Bashir Ibrahim that the training is essential for equipping staff with modern therapeutic tools to address complex substance use disorders, emerging psychoactive substances, and co-occurring mental health issues. The initiative also focuses on improving professional ethics, patient confidentiality, data management, and quality assurance across all state command rehabilitation facilities.
