NDLEA reports mob attack in Cross River and warns exporters
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that its operatives were attacked by a mob during a drug raid in the Lemna area of Cross River State. The confrontation occurred during a motorized patrol when officers attempted to search a motorcycle, leading to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and synthetic cannabis. According to Assistant Commander Kabiru Abdullahi, the crowd used sticks and stones to attack the uniformed officers, resulting in one officer being hospitalized. The mob also reportedly freed three suspects who had been apprehended.
Separately, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) issued a warning to Nigerian exporters, specifically targeting women and young entrepreneurs. Speaking at the Aspire Women Forum in Abuja, Marwa cautioned that shipments contaminated with illicit drugs could lead to imprisonment and damage Nigeria’s international trade reputation. He urged business owners to verify all partners and transactions to ensure their goods are not used as channels for drug trafficking.
