NDMC Chairperson apologizes for Delhi waterlogging
Manoj Dwivedi, Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), has issued a public apology to citizens following severe waterlogging in Delhi caused by heavy rainfall on August 25, 2026. This marks a rare instance in Delhi's administrative history where a high-ranking official has publicly accepted responsibility for public inconvenience.
Dwivedi noted that while the administration typically clears water within 15 to 20 minutes, more than an hour was required in several areas due to an unexpected rainfall of over 72 mm in less than two hours. He emphasized that the extreme weather should not serve as an excuse for systemic shortcomings and stated that the administration must strengthen its systems to handle such situations in the future.
The NDMC Chairperson has committed to implementing both short-term and long-term measures to ensure the area remains free of waterlogging and has invited suggestions from citizens to improve urban management.
