NDR colleague Bettina Kater retires after 33 years

Bettina Tietjen, moderator for the NDR program ‘DAS!’, has announced the retirement of long-time colleague Bettina Kater after 33 years of collaboration. Kater, who began her career at the broadcaster through an apprenticeship, has been a fixture at the NDR studios in Hamburg-Lokstedt since the program first aired on January 2, 1991.

As a editorial assistant, Kater was responsible for preparing broadcast schedules, inserting segments and name overlays, and verifying all information prior to live broadcasts. Tietjen described Kater as ‘irreplaceable,’ noting her intelligence, professionalism, and reliability, stating that ‘many threads came together’ with her work.
