Ne-Yo faces lawsuit over cancelled Sri Lanka concert

American R&B singer Ne-Yo and his associated companies, Compound Touring and Independent Artist Group, are facing a lawsuit in the United States filed by Sri Lankan promoter Brown Boy Presents. The legal action follows the cancellation of a scheduled performance at Colombo’s Sugathadasa Stadium.

The promoter is seeking the return of over US$284,000 paid as an advance toward a US$325,000 performance fee, along with compensation for additional losses. Brown Boy Presents alleges that Ne-Yo’s team hindered the contract by demanding expensive travel arrangements for approximately 30 people, totaling nearly US$93,000 in airfare. The lawsuit also notes that Cyclone Ditwah and subsequent economic disruption in Sri Lanka impacted the local ticket-buying environment.

Ne-Yo’s legal team has contested the claims, arguing that the promoter breached the agreement by failing to pay the full required advance and failing to arrange travel and accommodation as agreed. Ne-Yo’s representatives maintained that the funds already paid would be retained as damages due to the alleged breach. The dispute highlights the significant financial risks local promoters face when hosting high-profile international artists.
