Nea Ionia to host 10th annual road race honoring Asia Minor refugees

The 10th annual road race, titled ‘In the Neighborhoods of the Asia Minor Refugees,’ is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27, at 8:30 AM. The event is dedicated to the refugees from Asia Minor who settled in the areas of Nea Ionia, Nea Filadelfeia, and Nea Chalkidona following the Asia Minor Catastrophe approximately 100 years ago.

The race is co-organized by the Municipalities of Nea Ionia and Nea Filadelfeia-Nea Chalkidona, the Center for the Study and Promotion of Asia Minor Culture, and local athletic clubs Anatoli and Ikaros. The program includes a 10,000-meter race for up to 700 participants and a 1,000-meter race specifically for primary, middle, and high school students. Participation is free, and both races will feature electronic timing.
