Nea Salamis defeats Anorthosis 3-0 in Varos derby

Nea Salamis secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Anorthosis in the Varos derby during the fourth matchday of the Cyprus League. Despite Anorthosis controlling much of the first half and hitting the woodwork through Chrysostomou, Nea Salamis broke the deadlock in the 44th minute via Poveda.

In the second half, Nea Salamis increased their lead. Luca scored the second goal in the 64th minute after a VAR intervention overturned an initial offside call. Grancier added a third goal in stoppage time following a defensive error by Artymatas to finalize the score.

Following the match, Anorthosis spokesperson Charalampos Parpettas expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the officiating. He criticized the management of the VAR, specifically citing a missed handball incident that prevented an Anorthosis attacker from a clear scoring opportunity. The club announced intentions to appeal to relevant authorities regarding the quality of refereeing and the use of foreign officials in the VAR room.
