Theft of solar panel cables at schools in Neapoli-Sykeon

Criminals have carried out two consecutive burglaries at schools in the Neapoli-Sykeon municipality of Thessaloniki, stealing large quantities of cables intended for new photovoltaic solar systems.

The first incident occurred on the night of Thursday, August 27, at the 2nd General Lyceum of Neapoli. Perpetrators broke through courtyard and stairwell doors to access the roof, stealing six cable reels and three 15-meter cable segments. The second incident took place on Sunday, August 30, at the Experimental Gymnasium and Lyceum. After destroying iron doors to reach the roof, the thieves were interrupted by a private security guard and fled.

The stolen equipment was part of a €450,000 municipal energy-saving program funded by the municipal fund. Neapoli-Sykeon Mayor Simos Daniilidis has condemned the thefts, citing them as evidence of insufficient policing in the area. He has called for the acceleration of procedures to establish a new local police station.
