Nebraska sees two new political parties emerge amid legal challenges
Two new political parties, the America First Party and the Nebraska Working People Party, have met the required signature threshold to seek official recognition in Nebraska. Secretary of State Bob Evnen notified organizers that they must submit party constitutions, bylaws, and officer lists by August 27 to finalize their status.
The Nebraska Working People Party aims to represent working families, rural communities, and small businesses. Democratic Chair Jane Kleeb accused opponents of using the party as a spoiler tactic.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska Republican Party has filed a lawsuit to block the America First Party from the November ballot. The GOP argues that the party uses conservative language regarding immigration and the Second Amendment to intentionally confuse voters. The lawsuit seeks to overrule the Secretary of State’s decision not to intervene in the party's creation.
