Nebraska teachers receive Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Awards

Two Nebraska educators, Shaun Hoover and Stacy Moore, have been named recipients of the 2026 Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Award. The honor is presented by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Education and Human Sciences.

Shaun Hoover, a Spanish teacher and World Language Department head at Millard North High School, has spent over 20 years educating and mentoring students. In addition to his teaching roles, Hoover has served as a coach for football, wrestling, and soccer. Stacy Moore, a special education coordinator at Scottsbluff Public Schools, was also selected for the award.

The Battey Award was established in 1986 to honor the memory of Freda Drath Battey, a 1923 graduate of Nebraska’s Teachers College. The award recognizes excellence in teaching alongside contributions to student-oriented programs or counseling.
