NEC and UrbanChain to Pilot AI-Driven Parking Service in Fukuoka, Japan

NEC Corporation and UrbanChain will conduct a month‑long demonstration in September 2026 in surface and floor parking lots in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The trial will combine UrbanChain’s Parking OS platform with NEC’s AI‑powered image‑recognition technology to detect when a vehicle occupant exits the car and to trigger automated payment based on the exact exit time.

Technical validation will assess camera placement, detection accuracy and integration with the parking management system, while business validation will evaluate the viability of the payment model and the added safety and convenience benefits. The companies plan to extend the service to mechanical multi‑level parking structures and to use the data for monitoring vehicle exit counts and analysing visitor trends.
