NEC establishes new division staffed by autonomous AI agents

NEC has officially established the ‘Corporate AI Workforce Division,’ a new organizational unit staffed by autonomous AI agents. The division operates under a four-tier hierarchy consisting of an AI department head, an AI board (performing CxO functions), AI managers, and AI employees.

In this structure, AI managers generate and assign specific AI employees to meet internal business needs. These agents are onboarded with NEC’s code of conduct and internal regulations, and they possess the ability to self-learn to address skill gaps. While the AI agents execute tasks, monitor projects, and perform complex technical analyses, human employees maintain oversight, providing final evaluation, quality control, and governance.

During internal pilot testing in July, the division performed management analysis, simulations, and risk detection, reducing the time required for these tasks to approximately one-seventh of the original duration. All AI activities are monitored in real-time via a digital twin system known as the ‘AI Integrated Management Cockpit.’ NEC intends to eventually commercialize the methodologies and management solutions developed through this initiative.
