NEC Nijmegen defeats Willem II 4-1 in Eredivisie recovery
NEC Nijmegen secured a convincing 4-1 away victory against Willem II in their second Eredivisie match of the season, recovering from a previous loss to Telstar. Adam Tahaui, making his starting debut, scored a header just before halftime to give NEC a 1-0 lead.
NEC extended their advantage in the second half with goals from Tjaronn Chery, Bryan Linssen, and substitute Kaj Sierhuis. While Willem II managed a goal through Thomas Verheydt, they were unable to overcome the visitors' offensive surge. NEC manager Dick Schreuder noted that while the performance was a step forward, the team must manage the physical demands of a heavy schedule involving upcoming Champions League play-offs.
NEC is now preparing for a crucial Champions League play-off tie against the Norwegian side FK Bodø/Glimt. Players such as Dušan Tadić and Tjaronn Chery are expected to provide veteran experience as the club pursues its first appearance in the Champions League group stage.
