Gelderland experiences series of fires and traffic accidents
On 25 July a number of emergency incidents were reported in the Dutch province of Gelderland. A forest fire was fought near Putten and a parked car caught fire on Zanderijweg in Ede; both blazes were extinguished while authorities investigated possible arson.
Several traffic collisions occurred the same day. In Lunteren a motorcyclist injured her ankle after being struck by a car. In Oldehove a motorcyclist was seriously injured after colliding with a line bus. A crash in a residential street in Scherpenzeel caused injuries after a driver entered the wrong lane; police seized her licence.
In Doornenburg fishermen discovered a phosphorus grenade exposed by low river water, which ignited. Police and fire crews responded; no casualties were reported.
