Neckarbrücke bridge construction delayed until 2028

Construction of the new Neckarbrücke bridge connecting Ladenburg and Mannheim has faced delays, with completion now expected by summer 2028. While five of the six pillars are finished or well underway, the final pillar is causing complications.

The sixth pillar must be built within an existing mole located between the Neckar river and the Neckar Canal. This structural constraint has delayed the installation of seven steel components, each weighing over 200 tonnes. These parts are being manufactured in Belgium and are scheduled to be transported by specialized vessels for assembly in summer 2027.
