Necochea transport workers demand labor continuity amid transit emergency

Public transport workers in Necochea and Quequén are demanding labor guarantees amid a potential economic and operational emergency declaration for the local transit system. Representatives from the Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA) and drivers from Patagonia Argentina have expressed concerns regarding job continuity and salary payments.

Drivers are specifically seeking certainty following a municipal proposal to grant an 18-month extension to the company DMR to complete its fleet. Workers noted that Patagonia Argentina will pay salaries until October 31, but they lack clarity on who will guarantee wages and benefits, such as seniority and social security, during the transition to DMR.

UTA representative Gastón Urrutia criticized the political focus on theoretical tools, arguing that an emergency declaration is insufficient unless it provides immediate solutions, such as ensuring salaries are deposited by the 12th of each month and resolving outstanding social security debts. Protests and legislative sessions are scheduled to address these systemic issues.
