Ned Mannoun: Liverpool Mayor settles union bullying case
The bullying case brought by the United Services Union against Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun has been discontinued. Both parties reached an agreement following several conciliation meetings.
The dispute began in May when the union, which represents approximately 600 council workers, filed a claim in the Industrial Relations Commission. The claim followed a Facebook video posted by Mannoun, in which he alleged the union had bullied the council’s deputy mayor and included images of union members participating in industrial action. The union argued these actions were an attempt to incite community resentment and placed members at risk.
As part of the resolution, Mannoun affirmed his commitment to the Liverpool City Council media policy. This includes adhering to clauses that require councillors to resolve personal differences privately and prohibiting communications that could bring the council into disrepute. Mannoun described the legal proceedings as a “waste of everyone’s time,” while the union noted that the mayor agreed to blur faces in the controversial video.
