Neelkanth Mahadev Temple highlights spiritual significance in Uttarakhand

The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, located on Manikoot Mountain in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, remains a significant spiritual center for Hindu devotees. Situated approximately 32 kilometers from Rishikesh, the temple is deeply tied to Vedic mythology, specifically the legend of the Samudra Manthan, where Lord Shiva is believed to have consumed the Halahal poison, turning his throat blue.

During the holy month of Shravan, the temple sees a massive influx of pilgrims, including Kanwariyas who carry Ganges water to perform Jalabhishek. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the spiritual importance of the site on social media, describing it as a sacred pilgrimage destination filled with ancient energy.

The temple is positioned near the confluence of the Madhumati and Pankaja rivers, nestled between the Brahmakoot, Vishnukoot, and Manikoot hills. It features a self-manifested (Swayambhu) Shiva Lingam shaped like a throat, symbolizing the mythological event.
