Neeme Järvi conducts Shostakovich in Chandos reissue

Chandos has released an eight-CD reissue featuring Neeme Järvi conducting the works of Dmitri Shostakovich with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The collection includes Symphonies Nos 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, as well as various ballet suites, the Festive Overture, and Violin Concertos featuring Lydia Mordkovitch.

The recordings originate from the late 1980s, during Järvi’s tenure as Principal Conductor of the Scottish National Orchestra from 1984 to 1988. The reissue highlights the breadth of Shostakovich’s compositions, ranging from introspective symphonies to lighter ballet numbers.
