Two-time Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra will make his 2026 season debut at the Doha Diamond League on 19 June, ending a nine‑month lay‑off caused by a back injury. The Indian star, who threw 90.23 m in Doha last year, has also been provisionally named in India’s 32‑member athletics squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Athletics Federation of India announced the squad, headlined by Chopra and new 110 m hurdles record‑holder Tejas Shirse, and featuring sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur, decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, shot‑putters Tajinderpal Singh Toor and others. The team will compete from 22 July to 2 August in Glasgow.

Separately, New Zealand unveiled a 21‑strong athletics team for the same Games, highlighted by steeplechase world champion Geordie Beamish, shot‑put legend Tom Walsh, pole‑vault star Eliza McCartney and high‑jump champion Hamish Kerr, among others. The Kiwi contingent aims for multiple medals across track and field events.
