Neeraj Chopra targets strong comeback following ankle injury
Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has announced his intention to make a strong comeback next season after being sidelined by an ankle ligament injury. The injury, sustained during a training session in August, forced the double Olympic medalist to miss the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and the Diamond League Final.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Chopra stated that his rehabilitation is on track and his ankle is feeling much better. While looking ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, his immediate focus remains on returning to competition in 2027 and delivering his expected level of performance.
Despite his absence, Chopra noted the growing depth of Indian javelin talent, praising Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav for securing silver and bronze medals respectively at the Asian Games. He described the emergence of these young athletes as a positive sign for the sport in India.
