Neeraj Chopra wins Commonwealth Games silver, set for Lausanne Diamond League
Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra said the past ten months of fitness setbacks tested him like never before. After recovering from an adductor injury and other niggles, he delivered a season‑best 85.83 m to claim silver at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, finishing behind Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage (89.75 m). Chopra, the 2018 Commonwealth gold medallist and two‑time Olympic medallist, thanked his physio Ishaan Marwaha, coach Jai Chaudhary and his family for their support.
Following the Glasgow performance, Chopra will compete in the Lausanne Diamond League (Athletissima) on 21 August, joining a stacked field that includes Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, Pathirage, and other world‑class throwers. The meet is expected to showcase the shifting centre of gravity in elite javelin toward the Indian subcontinent and the Caribbean.
