India secures multiple golds at 2026 Asian Games

India has achieved significant success at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, driven by historic performances in boxing, shooting, and archery.

In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain secured a gold medal in the women’s 75kg category, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi with a 5-0 unanimous decision. This victory makes her only the second Indian woman boxer to win Asian Games gold, joining Mary Kom.

Shooting saw major breakthroughs as Neeru Dhanda won gold in the individual women’s trap event, setting an Asian record. Dhanda also secured gold in the trap mixed team event alongside Kynan Chenai, where the pair broke the continental record with a score of 34.

Archery provided a dominant display as India swept the compound archery titles, winning gold in the women’s, men’s, and mixed team events. The mixed compound team, consisting of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav, also secured an Olympic quota for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Other notable achievements include Nethra Kumanan winning bronze in women’s dinghy sailing and the Indian women’s recurve archery team clinching gold by defeating South Korea. India’s total medal tally has reached approximately 60, including 10 golds, 21 silvers, and 29 bronzes.
