Negeri Sembilan political shake‑up as Wawasan wins seats and Rais Yatim’s honours are revoked
Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim said he accepted with an open heart the revocation of two state honours that had been conferred on him in 1982. He received the notice from the palace on July 30 and urged all parties not to turn the matter into a political issue during the election campaign.
In the same election, the newly formed Wawasan party, led by former Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, won the Gemas, Klawang and Sikamat seats in its maiden outing. Vice‑president Wan Saiful Wan Jan called on Bersatu members to leave the party, describing it as a sinking ship after it lost all 24 seats it contested in Negeri Sembilan. Bersatu secretary‑general Azmin Ali said the party would conduct a thorough review of the results and consider forming a coalition of moderate and progressive parties, while party leader Muhyiddin Yassin hinted Bersatu may exit the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
