Neglected roads spark complaints in Calabria and Basilicata
Residents of Badessa‑Mussano Superiore in the Cosenza municipality wrote a letter demanding urgent cleaning, waste removal and repair of their deteriorating communal road. They reported overgrown vegetation, assorted rubbish and toxic materials, noting that a fire on 25 July 2026 severely hampered emergency access.
Mayor Domenico Carlomagno of Nemoli (Basilicata) issued a press release denouncing the poor condition of the access road to Fondo Valle del Noce. He said the Consorzio di Bonifica della Basilicata ignored repeated pleas, and that on 27 July 2026, about 10,000 tourists arrived to find the same weeds‑filled, unsafe road. The mayor called for immediate intervention and the resignation of officials responsible for the neglect.
Both groups accuse local authorities of inaction and stress the safety risk for residents, emergency services and visitors, urging prompt maintenance and official inspections.
