Negombo truck crash kills motorcyclists, owner says they were racing
On July 29, a container truck turning across the Negombo–Minuwangoda Road in Bolawalana, Sri Lanka, collided with two motorcyclists who were riding at very high speed. Both youths died at the scene. The truck owner said CCTV footage showed the motorcyclists were participating in a street race, travelling at an estimated 160‑180 km/h, and that the road was clear when the truck began to turn.
The owner also claimed that nightly motorcycle racing is common on that stretch and that police have been notified but often arrive too late. After the crash, the truck was attacked and set on fire by outsiders; three suspects have been arrested for the arson. Police continue to investigate the crash, reviewing eyewitness accounts, CCTV and forensic evidence, while families of the victims have not yet responded to the owner's allegations.
