Negovan Nemec: Goriška region to honor sculptor in 2027

The Goriška region is preparing to dedicate the year 2027 to the academic sculptor Negovan Nemec, marking what would have been his 80th anniversary. This upcoming celebration follows the recent presentation of a comprehensive monograph titled ‘Negovan Nemec – življenje forme 1947–1987’ in Bilje.

Authored by art historian and the artist's widow, Nelida Nemec, the monograph provides a detailed account of his creative development and life. It covers his journey from his birthplace in Bilje to his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1975. The work explores his transition from small-scale sculpture and portraiture to monumental public works and abstract expressions using materials such as stone, wood, metal, and clay.

Negovan Nemec, who passed away in 1987 at the age of 40, remains a significant figure in the visual identity of the Goriška area. The monograph serves as both a professional overview of his artistic opus and a personal narrative of his life and influence on Slovenian art during the latter half of the 20th century.
