Negros Power electricity supply and compliance clarified

Recent power interruptions in Negros are being attributed to insufficient electricity supply in the national grid rather than the operations of Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power). Arnel Lapore, acting general manager of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO), stated that the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) implements manual load dropping to protect grid integrity during supply shortages.

Lapore noted that these shortages are a national issue involving power generation and transmission, affecting various distribution utilities and cooperatives in neighboring areas. He claimed that since the transition to Negros Power, there has been a 97 percent reduction in brownouts, excluding those caused by manual load dropping.

Additionally, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) clarified that Negros Power is compliant with its allowable system losses cap. While previously listed as exceeding limits during a Senate hearing, the ERC explained that Negros Power is currently in a five-year transition period under Republic Act No. 12011. During this time, the company is subject to an interim cap of 8.5 percent, and its reported 2025 feeder loss of 7.5 percent falls within this allowable limit.
