Neha Bora challenges Delhi Police peace bond notice in High Court
Neha Bora, president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging a notice issued by the Delhi Police. The notice, issued under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), requires Bora to execute a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety to maintain peace during an inquiry.
Bora’s legal team argues that the notice is vague, factually incorrect, and lacks material evidence to substantiate claims that she poses a risk to public order. The petition further contends that the notice fails to specify the particular time, occasion, or event where a breach of peace was anticipated, characterizing the action as a violation of fundamental rights to life and personal liberty.
The legal challenge follows Bora’s preventive detention on October 16 while she was en route to a march. She has been a prominent figure in protests regarding alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear the plea on October 22.
