Neighbor Fire in Brown County reaches 90% containment

The Neighbor Fire near Blanket, Texas, has reached approximately 90% containment after consuming an estimated 220 acres. According to the Texas A&M Forest Service and Brown County Emergency Management, no injuries or damage to homes have been reported.

The blaze began on the afternoon of August 23 near U.S. Highway 67/377. Response efforts involved multiple fire departments from across Brown County, as well as mutual aid from Coleman, Comanche, and McCulloch counties. Aerial support included Super Scooper aircraft from College Station, Air Tractor 802s, and a BAE-146 air tanker. The Texas Army National Guard also provided a helicopter for bucket operations.

While forward progression was stopped on Sunday afternoon, crews have continued mop-up operations. Local authorities previously issued evacuations for residents on County Roads 325 and 294. The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is currently under investigation.
