Neighboring municipalities oppose Olsztyn border expansion plans

The municipalities of Dywity and Stawiguda have officially and unanimously rejected proposals by Olsztyn Mayor Robert Szewczyk to expand the city's borders into their territories.

During an extraordinary session, Dywity councilors passed a resolution defending their local autonomy and the rights of their residents. They issued a direct appeal to the Olsztyn City Council to reject the initiative, warning that unilateral attempts to alter borders could permanently damage regional cooperation and relationships between local governments.

Similarly, the Stawiguda Municipal Council voted unanimously against the expansion. Councilors expressed concerns regarding the impact on local finances, schools, and infrastructure, specifically mentioning areas such as Bartąg, Tęczowy Las, Bartążek, and Jaroty. Stawiguda officials stated they do not agree to their territory being treated as a “territorial reserve” for Olsztyn. The local leadership also addressed comments made by the Olsztyn Mayor, characterizing certain descriptions of neighboring municipalities as offensive to the local community.
