Neil Diamond musical ‘A Beautiful Noise’ finds success in Australia
The jukebox musical ‘A Beautiful Noise’, which chronicles the life and career of Neil Diamond, has seen significant success during its Melbourne run at the Princess Theatre. Since its Australian premiere in August, the production has hosted over 100,000 theatregoers, with many performances reaching capacity.
Starring Broadway performer Will Swenson, the show utilizes 25 of Diamond’s classic songs to trace his journey from songwriter to international star. The production features a live nine-piece band and high-precision technical elements, such as a specialized guitar rotation system used during performances.
The musical’s success comes during a challenging period for the Australian musical theatre industry, following the cancellation of other major productions like ‘Waitress’ and ‘Beetlejuice’ due to weak ticket sales. ‘A Beautiful Noise’ is scheduled to conclude its Melbourne season on November 7, before opening in Sydney on November 14, with a subsequent tour to Brisbane planned for next year.
