Neil Fachie sets Scottish record with sixth Commonwealth Games gold

Para‑cyclist Neil Fachie OBE won a record sixth gold medal for Scotland in the men’s tandem 1000 m time trial at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, riding with pilot Aaron Pope. The pair posted a time of 1:00.162, securing gold and moving Fachie ahead of bowler Alex Marshall as the most successful Scottish Commonwealth Games athlete.

Fachie, 42, returned from retirement after the 2024 Paralympics and a full‑time job to compete when Glasgow was awarded the Games. He described the victory as a “fairytale finale” and said the home crowd and national anthem made the moment unforgettable. His win also gave Scotland its first gold of the track‑cycling programme and added to his legacy in para‑cycling.
