Nel ASA secures submarine electrolyzer orders from Collins Aerospace
Nel ASA has secured significant orders from Collins Aerospace for its Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology, intended for marine applications.
One contract, valued at approximately $12 million, involves Nel Hydrogen US producing electrolyzer stacks at a facility in Wallingford, Connecticut. These systems are designed to generate oxygen for life support systems on United States submarines, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
An additional order worth roughly $7 million has also been placed for marine programs involving the United States, Great Britain, and France. These developments signal a strategic shift toward defense-sector applications for Nel's hydrogen technology, providing a more stable revenue stream compared to the more volatile civilian hydrogen market.
