NELFUND increases nursing education funding to N812 million

NELFUND nursing education student loans midwifery training healthcare workforce

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has significantly increased its financial support for nursing and midwifery education. Funding for the 2025/2026 academic session has risen to N811.9 million, representing an almost 14-fold increase from the N59.4 million allocated during the 2023/2024 session.

Over the past three academic sessions, NELFUND’s total disbursement for these professional healthcare disciplines has exceeded N1.08 billion. This funding has benefited 5,381 students across 21 Federal and State institutions, including the Oyo State College of Nursing, Lagos State College of Nursing, and Katsina State College of Nursing and Midwifery.

According to NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the expanded intervention aims to strengthen access to professional training and support the development of Nigeria’s future healthcare workforce.
