Nelio Biedermann’s debut novel Lázár explores Hungarian history

Nelio Biedermann’s debut novel, ‘Lázár’, traces three generations of an aristocratic family against the backdrop of sixty years of Hungarian history. The narrative spans from the early 20th century, during the era of the Habsburg Dual Monarchy, through periods of war, the dissolution of the monarchy, and the socialist era.

The story follows the Lazar family, beginning with the birth of Lajos, whose life is marked by various familial tragedies. While the novel is noted for its concise length of under 300 pages, it aims to capture the dramatic transformations and traumas of the Hungarian experience, contrasting it with more stable historical periods.
