Nelson Alves and Yurena Castrillo win 16th Aguas de Teror Trail in Gran Canaria
The 16th edition of the Aguas de Teror Trail took place on 29 July 2026 in Teror, Gran Canaria, Spain. More than 1,200 runners participated in the event, which had to adopt a newly designed course after winter storms damaged the usual mountain paths.
Volunteer teams spent weeks clearing vegetation, repairing trails and re‑signalling the route, enabling the race to go ahead without interruption. The competition was closely contested, with Nelson Alves and Yurena Castrillo emerging as the dominant winners.
The successful adaptation of the race highlights both the growing popularity of trail running in the Canary Islands and the essential role of local volunteers in preserving mountain access for sport.
