Nelson Hamilton Leiria, retired judge and lawyer, dies at 72

Nelson Hamilton Leiria, a retired federal judge, lawyer, and professor, has died at the age of 72. His passing was reported on Wednesday, September 23.

Leiria had a significant legal career in Blumenau, Santa Catarina. He served for 28 years as a judge for the Regional Labor Court of the 12th Region before retiring and returning to legal practice as a lawyer. He was also a partner at the law firm Cascaes, Hirt & Leiria and was active in academia.

The OAB Blumenau and his former colleagues expressed grief, describing him as an ethical and dedicated professional. A wake and farewell ceremony were scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at the Neuhaus Crematorium in the Salto Norte neighborhood of Blumenau, followed by cremation. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
