Nelson Rodrigues classic receives contemporary stage production in Maceió

A contemporary production of Nelson Rodrigues’ 1945 play, “Álbum de Família – Um Choro Mortal,” will be performed on August 14, 15, and 16 at the Centro de Pesquisas Cênicas (Cepec) in Pajuçara.

Directed, adapted, and designed by Aldine de Souza, the staging connects the classic work to modern Brazilian news headlines regarding domestic violence, femicide, abuse, and intolerance. The production utilizes a visual aesthetic inspired by the 2000s, incorporating samba and choro music to blend beauty with horror.

The performance also marks the conclusion of the training cycle for Cepec’s Free Theater Course, featuring an ensemble that began their studies as beginners at the institution.
