Neltume Ports proposes US$ 900 million terminal in Montevideo
Neltume Ports has announced plans to invest approximately US$ 900 million to develop the Montevideo Container Terminal (MCT) in Uruguay. The proposal, which has been formally presented to the Uruguayan government for evaluation, represents the largest private port investment proposed to date for the country.
The project aims to position Uruguay as a logistics platform for the Southern Cone by expanding the capacity of the Port of Montevideo. The proposed specialized terminal is designed to handle up to 1,150,000 TEUs annually. Infrastructure plans include 940 meters of berthing space capable of accommodating two post-panamax vessels, 38 hectares of operational surface, and advanced security and technological systems.
According to Neltume Ports, the initiative is intended to improve operational efficiency and support the growth of maritime trade on South America's east coast. The construction phase is estimated to generate 1,800 jobs.
