Nemanja Majdov discusses switching from Bosnia to Serbia
Serbian judoka Nemanja Majdov has shared details regarding his decision to switch sporting allegiances from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Serbia. Born in East Sarajevo, Majdov competed for Bosnia and Herzegovina until 2011, during which time he reached the top of the world cadet rankings. However, he stated that he received no tangible support from the Bosnian federation during that period.
Majdov transitioned to representing Serbia in 2013 after being scouted by the Serbian Judo Federation following a European Cup victory. He noted that the Serbian system provided the necessary financial and professional programming to support his career. He also reflected on the personal sacrifices made by his family, including traveling long distances to competitions and sleeping in vehicles to manage costs.
Despite facing severe knee injuries that doctors initially deemed career-ending, Majdov continued his training. He has since achieved significant international success, including a World Championship gold medal in 2017 and a European Championship title in 2023.
