Nemi hiker rescued after getting lost in woods
A 30-year-old hiker was rescued after losing his way in the dense vegetation of the ‘Specchio di Diana’ forest in Nemi, Italy. The emergency began around 7:00 PM when the man, who was walking alone near the lake area toward Fontana Tempesta, lost his orientation as darkness approached.
The rescue operation lasted approximately two and a half hours. The hiker was able to use his smartphone to send his exact GPS coordinates to emergency services, which allowed the Rome Fire Department's specialized SAF (Speleo Alpino Fluviale) unit and the local Nemi team to pinpoint his location.
Rescuers navigated difficult and steep terrain to reach the man. He was found in good health, though shaken, and was escorted to a collection point where he received medical checks from 118 emergency personnel. Carabinieri from the Ariccia Company and the man's family were also present at the conclusion of the operation.
