Nemrut Caldera declared a National Park in Bitlis
The Nemrut Caldera has been officially declared a National Park following a Presidential Decision published in the Official Gazette. The new status covers a total area of 4,804.61 hectares spanning the Tatvan, Ahlat, and Güroymak districts of Bitlis.
This legal designation aims to strengthen the protection of the region's sensitive ecosystem, including its crater lakes, geological formations, and unique landscapes. The management of the park will be coordinated by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, with local administration handled by the Bitlis Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate and the Merkez-Ahlat Nature Conservation and National Parks Chiefdom.
The move is expected to facilitate better visitor management and promote sustainable tourism in the area while ensuring the long-term preservation of its natural and cultural values.
