Nemrut Crater Lake draws surge of summer visitors and canoe enthusiasts
Nemrut Crater Lake, situated at 2,250 m in Bitlis province between the districts of Ahlat, Güroymak and Tatvan, is Turkey's largest and the world's second‑largest crater lake. The lake, part of the award‑winning European Destinations Excellence (EDEN) project, features hot and cold water bodies, steam vents and ice caves.
With the start of the summer season, visitor numbers have risen markedly. Travelers are spending time on the lake’s clear waters, with canoeing becoming a popular activity. Tourist Cihan Doğar said, "Nemrut Crater Lake has a spectacular view and pristine water. Here we can enjoy both swimming and canoeing. Anyone who wants to be close to nature should definitely see it." The influx of domestic and foreign tourists is boosting local tourism and promoting the Bitlis region.
